Leave Brisbane and follow the Pacific Highway towards Surfers Paradise, climbing the ranges to Mount Tamborine, to take in the stunning views of the Gold Coast landscapes. Make a stop at Gallery Walk to explore the arts and crafts shops, before continuing through the Canungra Valley, where you can sample the fruits at the vineyards, or even search for a platypus in Canungra Creek. The final, winding stretch leads you into the Lamington National Park.

With a day to explore the region, maybe take a bush walk along one of the many trails, leading to the numerous waterfalls and panoramic mountain lookouts. Don’t miss the O’Reilly’s Treetop Walk, or even just relax in the Lost World Spa for a day of pampering.

Head back north towards the Sunshine Coast, travelling through the exotic pine plantations, open forest and rainforest that make up the Beerburrum National park. The views over the coastal lowlands from the Glass House Mountains look-out are magnificent. Take a walk through the gum trees around the look-outs before continuing on towards Noosa.

Spend today enjoying Noosa, with its boutiques and markets, or head to the secluded beaches of Coolum and Peregian. The Noosa National Park provides some fantastic rainforest walks and plentiful birdlife.

Depart Noosa and continue north towards Maryborough, a historic wool port dating back to 1847. Carry on towards Hervey Bay, and River Heads, where you will catch the catamaran to Fraser Island. On arrival at Kingfisher Bay Resort the remainder of the day is free to start exploring the island.

Today head off for a full day ranger guided Beauty Spots Tour of Fraser Island, learning about the natural and cultural history. Swim in the clear, blue waters of Lake McKenzie, walk through towering rainforest and drive along the famous Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Other highlights are Eli Creek and the Maheno shipwreck.

Return from Fraser Island to Hervey Bay, and collect your car to head south along the Bruce Highway to Brisbane. Travel through the rolling hills, national parks and Queensland bushland areas. There is more of the Sunshine Coast to explore, such as the hinterland towns of Montville and Maleny, before your arrival back in Brisbane.
